Filed under the "bummer" category is a recent announcement first seen on the View From The Wing blog that Chase will be dropping the dining option from their Priority Pass memberships. Starting on July 1, 2024, the upcoming change will remove the $28 (per person) restaurant credit from Chase branded credit cards.

Chase dropping the dining benefit from the cards is unfortunate since many airports only offer Priority Pass restaurants and no lounge access. Also, with lounge overcrowding, it is sometimes better to choose the meal option rather than visit a lounge. On a positive note, I am glad to see they are keeping the other non-lounge venues such as spas, Minute Suites, gaming lounges, etc.

The upcoming change will affect all Chase-issued Priority Pass cards, including the Sapphire Reserve, J.P. Morgan Reserve, and Ritz-Carlton credit cards.

I remember back in April 2022 visiting the Bobby Van's Steakhouse in New York (JFK). The food was amazing, and I always planned to return the next time I was in town. I also remember that lunch was mostly covered (minus tip) with a $28 credit.

Up to this point, when I travel, I carry both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Capital One Venture X cards, along with their associated Priority Pass cards. I was equally bummed back in January 2023 when the Capital One Venture X card dropped all non-lounge benefits (including spas, restaurants, and gaming lounges). However, I kept the (Venture X) card to access their lounges, the annual travel credit, and anniversary points.

Closing Thoughts

I am sure bummed about this news, and I always travel with my Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Once this change is effective, I will no longer be able to access complementary Priority Pass dining. I will close by saying the Chase Sapphire Lounge in Boston is one of the most excellent lounges I have ever visited, but I have to think hard about the value of this card with this reduction in dining when renewal comes around.
