Harlingen (HRL) Valley Airport Completes VIP Club Renovation

Read our review on the Harlingen VIA VIP Club.

Back in November 2022, we reported that the Harlingen VIA VIP club would be closed for renovation until sometime this year. Well, the wait is over, and the Harlingen Valley International Airport (HRL) VIA club has re-opened on March 22nd.

The reported renovation cost was around $90,000 and took just under four months to complete. The result is a modern, clean, and comfortable venue with new furniture, lighting, and amenities. The VIP club is located near gate 6 and is open the same hours as the main airport terminal.

The updated club features all-new wall art, sofas, chairs, tables, a kitchenette with a sink, and free drinks, including coffee, soda, juice, and bottled water. The lounge does not provide snacks, but an airport representative told me you can bring your own snacks or grab food from one of the airport dining establishments. The club also has free Wi-Fi that will allow you to work or relax while you are waiting. Finally, to ensure you don't miss your flight, a Flight Information Display System (FIDS) screen will show live airline departure and arrival information.

The VIP Club membership pricing is $100 (up from $25) for two years and is aimed at business travelers but available to all. Membership details can be found on the airport’s website. Basically, you fill out the enrollment form and then call the phone number on the page to make your payment; once you have made your payment, you will be able to pick up your membership card at the Dispatch Office at the airport (located on the 1st floor).

Closing Thoughts

I have mentioned this before in other reviews, but I think more of these club locations should exist, especially at smaller airports. If I lived in or flew to Harlingen (HRL) on a regular basis, I would absolutely have a club membership; this would be a great place to relax or work before flights. I do worry slightly about overcrowding since this lounge appears to have seating for around 12 people.
